If on the other hand you are a keen walker or have some experience of navigation and you want to extend these skills further then perhaps the Intermediate Navigation Course is a more sensible approach to take. This one-day course is also suitable for a range of groups from those who want to simply improve their navigation skills through Practical Navigation for Walkers, to those who have embarked on the Countryside Leaders Award Course or the Mountain Training Association Hill and Moorland Leader Course and want to gain further navigation experience or simply want to refresh their skills prior to assessment.

The Intermediate Navigation Course is based upon the learning outcomes of the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) at Silver level. This is a recognised navigational qualification i.e. NNAS Silver Award but this is a two-day course that involves some additional navigation training as well as an assessment on day-two. The qualification is recognised by the MTA and provides the opportunity to lead small groups in lowland, hill and moorland areas along paths and tracks and across open countryside within the UK and Ireland. It is also ideal for those who want to supervise and assess Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh groups.
